The morning after the funeral was as quiet as I expected. Grief has a way of slowing everything down—voices, footsteps, even time itself. I thought life would slowly settle back into place. Then the phone rang. It was her son, and he sounded confused and angry. While sorting through his mother’s belongings, he had found a letter addressed to me instead of to him.
