Walmart is continuing to refine the way customers shop in its stores by expanding and improving its Scan & Go technology. Rather than eliminating traditional checkout options, the retailer is offering shoppers more flexibility in how they pay for their purchases.

Scan & Go allows customers to use the Walmart mobile app to scan items as they shop, place products directly into their bags, and complete payment digitally. The process is designed to reduce time spent at checkout, particularly during peak shopping hours.

After payment, shoppers exit through a designated Mobile Express verification area, where brief checks help ensure accuracy and maintain store security without creating delays. Recent updates also include expanded digital coupon integration, allowing eligible discounts to be applied automatically within the app. This removes the need for paper coupons and provides clearer pricing at checkout.

Another added feature lets customers scan a QR code on printed receipts to instantly access a digital copy. This option can be useful for returns, personal budgeting, or tracking expenses.

In addition to mobile checkout improvements, Walmart has increased the number of self-checkout lanes in many locations. Customers can now choose between cashier-assisted checkout, self-service kiosks, or app-based payment, depending on their preference.

By offering multiple checkout options instead of pushing a single method, Walmart aims to reduce congestion and improve overall store flow. The changes reflect a broader shift in retail toward faster, more predictable shopping experiences, while still maintaining accuracy and oversight.
