A cowboy who had recently relocated from Texas walked into a local Wyoming bar and ordered three mugs of beer. Carrying them to a quiet table, he took a sip from each mug in turn. When he finished, he returned to the bar and ordered three more.

Curious, the bartender approached him. “You know,” he said politely, “beer can go flat after it’s poured. It might taste better if you ordered one mug at a time.”

The cowboy explained that he had two brothers—one serving as an Airborne Ranger and the other as a Navy SEAL—both stationed overseas. Before parting ways, the three had made a promise to drink together in spirit, each enjoying a beer in the same way they once had back home. One mug was for each brother, and one for himself.

The explanation resonated with the bartender and the regulars. Over time, the cowboy became a familiar face, always following the same ritual.

Then one evening, he walked in and ordered only two mugs. The change did not go unnoticed. When he returned to the bar for another round, the bartender offered quiet condolences, assuming the worst.

The cowboy quickly laughed and cleared up the misunderstanding. He explained that nothing had happened to his brothers. Instead, he and his wife had recently joined the Baptist Church, and he had decided to stop drinking.

Smiling, he added that the change hadn’t affected his brothers at all.
