My sister Kelsey had a name for it: “Gentle parenting.”

I had another name for it—but I tried to keep that to myself.

Whenever someone in the family tried to correct Jeremy, Kelsey would immediately step in with the same breezy line: “He’s just expressing himself.”


The Breaking Point

One day, Jeremy took it too far.

While I was at work, Kelsey brought him over to my house. She knew I had just bought my dream car—a sleek, brand-new model I’d saved up for years to afford. She also knew I kept it parked in the driveway.....
