Mother Ends Cycle of Abuse After Son Slaps Her in Shocking Moment

A Mother’s Breaking Point

Rebecca Collins had spent years making excuses for her son Brandon’s behavior. After her divorce from Richard Collins, she attributed his anger to their broken family, his college failure, unemployment, heartbreak, and depression. Every outburst, broken object, or drunken episode was met with another justification, as she clung to memories of the affectionate little boy who once picked flowers for her.

The atmosphere shifted instantly. Brandon’s expression hardened as Rebecca explained she would no longer finance his reckless behavior. Then, without warning, his hand struck her across the face.

The slap echoed through the kitchen. Brandon showed no remorse, instead appearing irritated, as if she had provoked him. He walked upstairs and slammed his bedroom door, leaving Rebecca frozen in place, one hand against her cheek. In that moment, she realized she was afraid of her own son.

A Call for Help

After midnight, Rebecca called her ex-husband, Richard. Though they rarely spoke outside of holidays, she knew she couldn’t handle this alone. When she told him, “Brandon hit me,” Richard responded with quiet urgency: “I’m coming.”....
