I Signed Divorce Papers Unknowingly After Husband’s Betrayal

The Moment That Shattered Everything

Rain drummed against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Chicago law office as Valeria Vance sat across from her father’s longtime attorney, Victoria Sterling. The reading of Arthur Vance’s will should have been a solemn but straightforward affair—condolences, legal formalities, and the weight of grief. Instead, Valeria’s world imploded in an instant.

“Mrs. Vance… the system indicates you have been divorced for two months.”

Valeria stared at Victoria, certain she had misheard. Just hours earlier, her husband, Julian Cross, had texted her a loving reminder about the weather. Yet the attorney’s computer screen displayed an undeniable truth: a finalized divorce decree, signed and executed without Valeria’s knowledge.

Exhausted and trusting, Valeria had signed without reading. She never imagined those papers were a divorce petition.

Victoria’s next words offered a grim silver lining. “Your father left an estate worth $35 million in liquid assets, stock options, and commercial properties. But he left an ironclad stipulation: everything passes exclusively to you, completely separate from any marital property. Because you are legally divorced, Julian cannot touch a single dime.”

Even in death, Arthur Vance had protected his daughter.....
