Emergency C-Section Without Her Husband Present
At 2:17 p.m., Emily Carter signed emergency C-section consent forms alone as medical alarms blared around her. Three tiny heartbeats flickered unevenly on the monitors, each struggling as doctors warned time was running out.
Dr. Naomi Patel turned to her with urgent eyes. “Mrs. Carter, we must perform an emergency C-section immediately. Baby B shows severe distress, and Baby C’s umbilical cord is compressed. If we wait any longer… we could lose all three.”
Emily’s hands trembled as she glanced at the empty chair beside her bed. Her husband, Mark Carter, had promised to return “in a moment” nearly an hour earlier. Nurse Lauren’s repeated calls to his phone went straight to voicemail.

Madison smiled. “Today is about us.” Mark returned her smile and cut the cake together.
Alone in the Operating Room
Back at the hospital, Emily signed the consent form with icy fingers. “If I sign… will they live?” she asked Dr. Patel.
“We’re going to do everything humanly possible,” the doctor promised.....
