For more than two decades, a massive bear named Jimmy has quietly become the symbol of compassion, trust, and ethical wildlife care at the Orphaned Wildlife Center. Standing over nine feet tall and weighing more than 1,500 pounds, Jimmy’s appearance is powerful enough to stop anyone in their tracks. But according to those who know him best, it’s not his size that makes him unforgettable — it’s his calm and gentle spirit.
Nestled within a peaceful 100-acre sanctuary surrounded by trees and open space, the center was founded by Marty Kowalczik and Debbie Kowalczik with a mission rooted in rescue, rehabilitation, and respect for wildlife. Over the years, the sanctuary has cared for countless injured and orphaned animals, but Jimmy’s story has become one of its most remarkable.
Jimmy arrived at the sanctuary as a cub after circumstances left him unable to survive in the wild on his own. While many rescued animals can eventually return to nature, Jimmy never developed the instincts needed to safely live outside human care. Instead of forcing him into an unnatural environment, the sanctuary made a different choice — to give him a permanent home where he could live safely and peacefully.
Now 21 years old, Jimmy has grown into an enormous yet surprisingly gentle bear who shares a deep bond with the caregivers who raised him. Visitors and supporters are often stunned by the contrast between his intimidating size and his relaxed demeanor. Videos and photos of Jimmy frequently spread online, with many viewers describing him as both awe-inspiring and comforting at the same time.....
