Florida Moms Turn In Their Own Sons After $50,000 School Vandalism Rampage

Two Florida mothers made a decision most parents hope they’ll never face: they called the police on their own children. Their sons — just 12 and 13 years old — are now facing serious charges after deputies say the pair caused more than $50,000 in damage to the library at Friendship Elementary School in Deltona.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the boys first slipped onto the school grounds during the day, then returned later that night with destruction on their minds. Once inside the library, investigators say the pre-teens launched into a full-blown rampage — tossing books across the floor, knocking over furniture, scribbling graffiti on doors, and leaving the media center in complete disarray.

But the damage didn’t end there. Deputies say the boys actually came back again, seemingly to admire what they’d done. During that second visit, they triggered the school’s fire alarm, prompting an emergency response that led officers straight to a scene they later described as “completely ransacked.”

Bodycam footage captured the aftermath: books scattered everywhere, shelves overturned, equipment damaged, and the library left looking more like a disaster zone than a place for learning.

Investigators released images in hopes of identifying the suspects. Not long after, the case took an unexpected turn — both boys’ mothers recognized their children in the footage and contacted authorities themselves. Deputies say the moms cooperated fully, leading to the boys’ eventual arrests.

The two are now facing charges that include burglary and criminal mischief.
