Weddings are meant to mark joyful new beginnings, but financial expectations can quickly turn celebrations into sources of tension. That reality came into sharp focus after a father from New York shared his dilemma on Reddit, asking whether he was wrong for refusing to fully fund his daughter’s lavish destination wedding.
The father explained that he had always intended to pay for his daughter’s wedding, viewing it as part of supporting her as she entered married life. However, his expectations were challenged when he learned that her vision involved a destination ceremony in New Zealand—carrying an estimated price tag of $200,000.
According to his post, the cost left him stunned. He described the expense as excessive and expressed concern that such an event would place an unfair burden on extended family members, many of whom could not afford international travel or did not have passports. He also worried that a destination wedding would unintentionally exclude loved ones from attending a milestone moment.....
