A commercial moving truck crushed her hydrangeas on the front lawn. A construction dumpster sat beside it, while power tools screamed from inside the house. “This is my house,” Bella said quietly. “Why is there a moving truck on my lawn?”
Her mother waved dismissively. “Oh, don’t be dramatic. We’re opening up the floor plan. Your brother and Victoria need the space.”
Bella’s stomach dropped. “Move in? I pay the mortgage. My name is on the deed.”
Her father finally spoke, avoiding her eyes. “We’re family. Jacob needs a break, and you’re busy with your career.”
Victoria smirked. “We’re doing you a favor. We’ll take care of the maintenance, and you can visit anytime.”
