The sun blazed over Fort Garrison’s parade field as rows of soldiers stood rigid in dress uniforms. What was meant to be Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Hayes’ promotion ceremony took an unexpected turn when Colonel Emily Carter stepped forward with a leather briefcase that would alter the day’s outcome.

Moments earlier, Claire Hayes, Andrew’s wife and Emily’s sister, had publicly humiliated Emily in front of military leaders, politicians, and troops. “Stop staring at my husband,” she declared, her tone laced with years of resentment.
