In the 1980s, Andrew McCarthy was a teenage heartthrob, known for his shy smile and quiet intensity. Yet behind the glamour, his path to fame was far from simple.

Born in 1962 in Westfield, New Jersey, McCarthy struggled with loneliness and fitting in during his youth. He enrolled at NYU to study acting but was expelled after attending only a few classes.
