Two Classic Jokes That Still Make People Smile

Posted on 31 December 2025 By tony

Some jokes endure not because they are loud or shocking, but because they rely on timing, wordplay, and unexpected logic. Here are two lighthearted stories that continue to circulate for exactly that reason.

The Farmer and the State Trooper

An elderly farmer was driving down the road with a truckload of manure when a state trooper pulled him over for speeding.

“You were going too fast,” the trooper said. “I’ll have to write you a ticket.”

“Yep,” the farmer replied calmly, while the trooper kept waving away several flies buzzing around him.

“These flies are awful,” the trooper complained.

“Yep,” the farmer said again. “Those are circle flies.”

“Circle flies?” the trooper asked.

“Yeah,” the farmer explained. “They’re the kind that circle a horse’s backside.”

The trooper frowned. “Are you calling me a horse?”

“Nope,” the farmer said. “I didn’t say that. But you sure can’t fool those flies.”

The humor lies not in insult, but in the farmer’s quiet confidence—and the flies’ supposed instincts.

Jacob’s Logic Puzzle

In another classic classroom joke, a student named Jacob challenges his teacher with a series of clever questions.

“How do you put an elephant in a refrigerator?” Jacob asks.

“I’m not sure,” the teacher answers.

“You open the door and put it in,” Jacob says.

Next question: “How do you put a giraffe in the refrigerator?”

The teacher smiles. “Easy. Open the door and put it in.”

“Not quite,” Jacob replies. “You open the door, take the elephant out, and then put the giraffe in.”

Jacob continues: “All the animals went to the lion’s birthday party. One animal didn’t show up. Which one?”

“The lion?” the teacher guesses.

“No,” Jacob says. “The giraffe. He’s still in the refrigerator.”

Finally, Jacob asks, “If you need to cross a river full of alligators, how do you do it?”

“Use a bridge,” the teacher answers.

“Nope,” Jacob says. “You swim across. All the alligators are at the lion’s party.”

The joke works because it rewards attention and memory—something Jacob clearly has plenty of.
