Actor Bobby J. Brown, known for his role as Officer Bobby Brown on HBO’s The Wire, has died at age 62 following a tragic barn fire in Maryland. According to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, his death was caused by thermal injuries and smoke inhalation and was ruled an accident. Family members said Brown had entered a barn to jump-start a vehicle when the fire suddenly broke out. He called for help and asked for a fire extinguisher, but the flames quickly engulfed the structure.
Firefighters arrived to find the 50-by-100-foot barn nearly consumed. After extinguishing the blaze, they discovered Brown inside. His wife was injured while attempting to rescue him and was hospitalized with burns. Brown gained recognition as part of the ensemble cast of The Wire, a series celebrated for its portrayal of life in Baltimore.
He also appeared in Law & Order: SVU, We Own This City, Homicide: Life on the Street, The Corner, and Veep. His film credits included Love the Hard Way, My One and Only, and From Within. Beyond acting, he directed documentaries on pit bulls and Parliament-Funkadelic.
Born in Washington, D.C., Brown was a Golden Gloves boxing champion before turning to acting, inspired by the film Homeboy. His agent described him as talented and authentic, and fans have shared tributes honoring his work and legacy. Brown is survived by his wife and children.
