Then, on an ordinary Tuesday morning, the man who once said we were “not his problem” walked back in asking for another chance. I married young, believing love could fix anything. When David’s construction work dried up, he changed.
He grew distant and resentful. I worked longer hours and tried to hold us together. When I told him I was pregnant, he looked worried. When we learned it was twins, he fell silent. After Ella and Grace were born, he barely helped. One afternoon, he stood in the doorway and said, “I can’t do this. I made a mistake.
