Mel Gibson knew right away that the script would transform his life when he was offered the part of William Wallace in Braveheart. He remarked that the story remained with him for a long time after he finished reading it, calling it a “very haunting piece of work.” Despite being approached as an actor at first, Gibson was unable to let it go.
