John Foster Brings America To Tears With Emotional Tribute, Then Stuns Judges With Country Classic On American Idol

John Foster, an 18-year-old from Louisiana and LSU student, has captivated American Idol fans with his authentic country sound. During the Easter-themed “Songs of Faith” episode, he performed his original song, “Tell That Angel I Love Her,” in tribute to late friends Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, moving judges and audiences to tears.

Carrie Underwood praised his “wonderfully throwback” style, while Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie celebrated his emotional authenticity.

The next night, Foster showed his range with Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon,” earning a standing ovation and solidifying his place as a true country standout.
