Ingrid Andress performs unforgettable rendition of the national anthem at MLB Home Run Derby

Grammy-nominated singer Ingrid Andress performed The Star Spangled Banner at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and left people puzzled about what went wrong. While she began with a fairly traditional approach to the opening lines, it soon became clear that her execution of the song did not match her usual standards as she started missing notes and drawing visible reactions from the players on hand.

During ESPN’s broadcast of the performance, Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm, 27, was seen stifling a smile, looking down at his shoes with a wry grin on his face while holding his hat to his heart.

Andress’ performance of the national anthem was dubbed the worst ever by the public, who draw comparisons to other widely criticized performances, particularly Fergie’s similarly mocked rendition from the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. “I think we all owe Fergie an apology,” someone commented under the video of Andress’ performance.

“Made fergie sound like whitney houston,” another person added.

“Worst National Anthem I’ve ever heard. Just disrespectful asf,” a third commented.

“I hope Ingrid Andress stays off of social media for a minute,” someone else shared their thoughts.

“I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” a person wrote.

Following the backlash she faced, Andress took to the social media to confess she was intoxicated during the performance.

“I’m not going to bulls**t y’all, I was drunk last night.

“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need,” she wrote. “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country I love so much for that rendition.”

She ended the post writing she would “let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”

Fellow singers left messages of sympathy in the comments on Andress’ social media account.

“Love you girl. I’m sorry you’re going through this And I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx” singer Julia Michaels wrote.

“I’m sending you love, Ingrid. Being this open takes a lot. You’ve got this. Hang in there,” fellow country star Carly Pearce commented.

Singer and actress Kristen Chenoweth also shared her support, “You are doing what you need to do. A proud moment.”
