If You Watched Knots Landing, You’ll Remember Her

Nicollette Sheridan became a familiar face to television audiences as the sharp-witted Paige Matheson on the long-running drama Knots Landing. She later reached an even wider public as Edie Britt, the glamorous and unapologetically bold character on Desperate Housewives, a role that made her one of the show’s most memorable figures.

Sheridan joined Knots Landing in 1986 and remained on the series for seven years. Before her success in prime time, she appeared in films, including The Sure Thing, where she played the romantic lead opposite John Cusack. Reflecting on her role as Paige, Sheridan once described the character as strong, ambitious, and playfully mischievous—qualities that helped her stand out in the ensemble cast.

Her work did not go unnoticed. In 1990, she received the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Lead Actress and was also named among People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.” Born in England, Sheridan moved to the United States at the age of 10. She grew up in a family connected to the entertainment world: her mother was actress Sally Adams, and her stepfather was the late actor Telly Savalas. Early in her career, she worked to replace her British accent with an American one to broaden her opportunities in Hollywood.

Sheridan’s personal life often attracted media attention. She married actor Harry Hamlin in 1991, but the marriage ended less than a year later. She later had a long on-and-off relationship with singer Michael Bolton, including an engagement in 2006, before they separated in 2008. A subsequent marriage to actor Aaron Phypers was also brief.

Professionally, a turning point came during her time on Desperate Housewives, when her character was written out of the series. Sheridan later filed a lawsuit against the show’s creator, alleging misconduct; the case was ultimately dismissed in 2017. She continued working in television, including a role on the reboot of Dynasty, but left the series in 2019 to care for her mother during a serious illness.

Today, Nicollette Sheridan keeps a lower public profile, choosing selective acting projects and focusing on her family life. From her early days on Knots Landing to her later success in prime-time television, she remains a recognizable figure for viewers who remember the era of classic TV drama.
