Boston frontman passed away at 60

During his treatment, he experienced serious medical complications, including a brain bleed that required emergency surgery. Doctors later discovered melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lung. Despite the difficult diagnosis and multiple setbacks, DeCarlo continued to show resilience throughout his battle.

His family described him as a fighter who never lost his determination, even during extended hospital stays and demanding treatments. For many fans, DeCarlo’s journey to fame was already legendary. In 2007, he stepped into the role of lead singer for Boston after the tragic death of the band’s original frontman, Brad Delp. At the time, DeCarlo was living a relatively ordinary life and working at a hardware store.

His tribute recordings of Boston songs posted online caught the attention of the band’s founder, Tom Scholz, who soon invited him to join the band on tour. DeCarlo’s story—from devoted fan to lead singer—became an inspiring part of rock history. Though he is gone, the music he helped bring to life will continue to resonate with fans for generations.
