Barack and Michelle Obama’s Daughters Are All Grown Up

Barack and Michelle Obama, once the First Couple of the United States, are now enjoying life as empty nesters. Their daughters, Malia and Sasha, have grown into accomplished young women—and people can’t help but notice how much they resemble their famous parents. Some say Malia is the spitting image of Barack, while others call Sasha a “mini Michelle.” Now in their 20s, the sisters have not only matured beautifully but have also become each other’s best friends.

A Sisterly Bond That’s Grown Over Time

When the pandemic hit, Malia (22) and Sasha (19) were both in college and ended up back home with their parents. Barack shared in a 2020 interview how much he and Michelle enjoyed having their daughters home again—eating dinner together, playing games, and watching movies like old times.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s Daughters Are All Grown Up—And The Resemblance Is Striking

As they got older, the bond between the sisters only deepened. Eventually, they even chose to live together in Los Angeles. Michelle admitted she was thrilled when they told her the news, though she tried to play it cool: “Well, that’s interesting. We’ll see how it goes,” she said with a smile.

Their apartment? Nothing fancy—decorated with budget-friendly finds from IKEA and yard sales. Michelle, ever the protective mom, keeps most details about their lives private. She knows her daughters value their space and aren’t interested in the spotlight.

Malia: From White House Kid to Hollywood Writer

Born in July 1998, Malia is now 26 and thriving in the entertainment world. Barack posted a heartfelt birthday tribute, saying, “One of the greatest joys of my life is watching you grow into the extraordinary woman you’ve become—and that you still hold your dad’s hand in public!”

Even as a child, Malia was thoughtful and wise beyond her years. At just six, she once asked her dad, “Are we rich?” And after hearing his answer, she responded, “That’s good. I want to live a simple life.”

After taking a gap year, Malia attended Harvard and graduated in 2021. She soon jumped into the TV and film industry, working as a writer and director. Her short film The Heart earned her the New Generation prize at the 2024 Festival de Deauville in France.

Malia also made waves co-writing an episode of the Amazon series Swarm, produced by Donald Glover. Colleagues praised her as smart, bold, and professional—a fresh voice in storytelling.
