My daughter forgot about my 90th birthday – I’ve spent it alone until the doorbell rang

Reaching a milestone birthday is an incredible achievement, especially if you turn 90. Patty was eagerly anticipating her 90th birthday, looking forward to celebrating with her daughter Angie and her grandchildren. Angie had promised to organize a small party, and Patty couldn’t contain her excitement.

Spending time with her grandchildren brought joy to Patty’s life, especially since she had been feeling lonely after the passing of her husband. Her grandchildren reminded her of Angie and their father John, whom Angie recently divorced.

Patty was saddened by her daughter’s divorce because she loved John as if he were her own son. However, she understood that sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, and there was nothing she could do to mend their relationship.

When Patty’s birthday finally arrived, she was filled with excitement. But as time passed, her excitement turned to worry as Angie was nowhere to be found and wasn’t answering Patty’s phone calls. Hours went by, and finally, the doorbell rang. Patty, despite her age, quickly answered the door, only to be surprised to see John standing there with a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers.

“Happy Birthday, Ma!” John said with a smile on his face.

Patty was overjoyed to see him and grateful that he remembered her special day. It didn’t come as a surprise, though, as John had always been a thoughtful person. Patty invited him to join her for dinner, and after a moment of hesitation, John accepted. Being an amazing cook, John even helped Patty prepare the food.

As the two sat down for dinner, John couldn’t help but ask about Angie. He wondered if she would mind him being there at her mom’s house. Patty assured him that Angie probably wasn’t coming since she hadn’t returned any of her calls.

Concerned, John offered to call Angie, and this time, she answered. After a short conversation, John informed Patty of the reason why Angie wasn’t there to celebrate her birthday.

“It turns out Angie, her new boyfriend, and the kids are all on vacation,” John said, worry evident in his voice.

Patty was taken aback. She couldn’t understand why her daughter would keep this a secret from her. John was also upset because Angie hadn’t informed him or consulted him about the vacation with their children.

Curious to know more, Patty asked John if he knew anything about Angie’s new boyfriend.

“She mentioned him in passing, but a whole vacation?! And apparently, they’ve been planning it for about a month now. I’m sorry, Patty, but I think your daughter has taken things a little too far this time,” John said, visibly disturbed.

Patty felt both disappointed and betrayed. The least Angie could have done was inform both her mom and the father of her children about her plans and the fact that she wouldn’t be present for this significant milestone in Patty’s life.

Later, Patty had a heartfelt conversation with her daughter, but the hurt still lingered. Despite the disappointment, Patty hoped that in the future, Angie would learn to keep her loved ones in the loop and consider their feelings.
