Family Betrayal Uncovered: Police Cover-Up Exposed by AG Counsel

The Night That Shattered Trust

At 2:27 a.m., Casey Peterson’s phone rang. Her mother’s voice trembled as she whispered from inside the bathroom of the Maplewood police station. Between sobs, she revealed a horrifying truth: Dana, Casey’s sister-in-law, had attacked her with a baseball bat while Colton, Casey’s brother, stood by silently. Worse, Dana had convinced officers that the victim—Casey’s mother—was the aggressor, claiming she suffered from mental illness.

Casey rushed to the station, where the scene inside confirmed her worst fears. The officer at the front desk turned pale upon recognizing her. “Ma’am… I… I didn’t know she was your mother,” he stammered. The admission spoke volumes: the case had been mishandled from the start.

The station reeked of burnt coffee and wet wool. Officers avoided eye contact, and a rookie stared at the floor as another quietly switched off his body camera. The evidence room door stood ajar, muddy footprints leading inside, while Dana’s rain-soaked blanket lay folded beneath Chief Enzo’s desk.

Casey, a special counsel for police integrity with the State Attorney General’s office, noticed something critical: Maplewood Precinct was days away from a confidential integrity audit—one only senior leadership knew about. Across the room, her mother sat handcuffed to a bench, one eye swollen shut and dried blood near her temple. Dana, meanwhile, clutched Colton’s shoulder, wearing nothing more than a tiny bandage on her cheek.

“She came at me because she is completely unstable,” Dana claimed. Colton refused to meet Casey’s gaze, instead staring at the floor in silence.

Kneeling beside her mother, Casey asked if anyone had photographed her injuries, called an ambulance, or collected the baseball bat. Her mother shook her head. The desk officer nervously insisted, “Mrs. Peterson said there was no bat involved.” Dana’s brief pause—a flicker of guilt—confirmed the lie.

The Evidence They Tried to Hide

Casey demanded the handcuffs be removed. Chief Enzo emerged from his office, his uniform shirt untucked, irritation etched on his face. “This is a private family dispute,” he snapped. Casey replied with chilling calm, “I haven’t even mentioned my title yet.”

An ambulance arrived only after Casey intervened, documenting the department’s refusal to provide medical care. At Pinecrest Memorial Hospital, scans revealed the truth: Casey’s mother had a fractured wrist, two cracked ribs, and bruises matching a baseball bat. Dana’s only injury—a small scratch—was deemed likely self-inflicted. Yet Colton persisted, “Mom came at Dana, and she’s been acting paranoid for months.”....
