After twelve exhausting hours at the salon, Lauren walked through her front door just before 10 p.m., carrying something heavier than exhaustion. Earlier that day, a call from Chase Bank had shattered her trust in her own family.
A representative confirmed a $200,000 wire transfer attempt tied to a fraudulent home equity line of credit opened in her name. The loan application bore her forged signature—and those of her husband, Brandon, and her mother-in-law, Sharon.
Instead of confronting them immediately, Lauren stopped at a seafood market and bought five Maine lobsters. It wasn’t a celebration. It was a test.
The Lobster Test
Before leaving for work that morning, she handed the lobsters to Sharon with one instruction: “Please cook these tonight. And make sure Eli eats well.”
