Paul Walker’s mother has shared a deeply emotional detail about the final day of her son’s life, revealing that a single text message altered his plans — and ultimately changed everything.
The Fast & Furious actor died 12 years ago at the age of 40 in a tragic car crash in Los Angeles. Walker was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT driven by his friend, professional racing driver Roger Rodas, when the vehicle lost control and collided with a lamp post and two trees. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
In the 2018 documentary I Am Paul Walker, Walker’s mother, Cheryl Walker, reflected on the quiet moments they shared earlier that day. She explained that her son had not initially planned to leave the house. The two were sitting in the kitchen, talking about his excitement to spend time with his daughter, Meadow, later that evening. Walker had planned to decorate a Christmas tree with her during a break from filming Furious 7.
“He had actually forgotten about an event,” Cheryl recalled. “Then he received a text message and said, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m supposed to be somewhere.’”
The message was a reminder about a charity event organized by Walker’s nonprofit foundation, Reach Out Worldwide, which was raising funds to assist victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. According to his mother, Walker expected to return home later that afternoon so they could continue their plans.

Walker’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through Hollywood and had a profound impact on the Fast & Furious franchise. Production on Furious 7 was temporarily halted before the film was rewritten and completed using stand-ins and visual effects. The final release served as a moving tribute to the actor, honoring both his on-screen presence and his personal legacy.
More than a decade later, Paul Walker continues to be remembered not only for his work in film, but also for his dedication to philanthropy and the lasting impression he left on fans around the world.
