At 78, Sally Field Continues to Turn Heads — This Time for Her Honesty

Posted on 28 December 2025 By tony

Sally Field has never been one to shy away from the truth, and even at 78, the Oscar-winning actress continues to earn admiration for her candor and authenticity.

During a 2022 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Field surprised viewers with a blunt reflection from her Hollywood past. When asked about her worst on-screen kiss, she didn’t hesitate to name Burt Reynolds — her former co-star and one-time romantic partner.

Laughing as she recalled the moment, Field joked that Reynolds “wasn’t very good at it,” adding that there was “a lot of drooling involved.” The comment quickly caught attention, not only because of its humor, but because of the complex history the two shared.

Field and Reynolds were one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples in the 1970s and early 1980s. Behind the scenes, however, their relationship was far from simple. In her memoir, In Pieces, Field later described the romance as emotionally challenging, offering a more nuanced view of a relationship that once captivated the public.

Now in her late 70s, Field continues to be respected not just for her iconic roles, but for her willingness to speak openly about her experiences — even when those memories challenge long-standing Hollywood narratives.

Her honesty, delivered without bitterness and often with humor, has become one of her defining traits, proving that authenticity can be just as compelling as fame.

Note: The statements referenced above were made during a 2022 television appearance.
