June Lockhart, famed for ‘Lassie,’ passes away

June Lockhart, the beloved actress from Lassie and Lost in Space, has passed away just months after celebrating her 100th birthday. She died peacefully on October 23, 2025, in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by her daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna. Born in 1925 in New York City to actors Gene and Kathleen Lockhart, June made her stage debut at eight and appeared in A Christmas Carol (1938) with her parents. Her career spanned film, stage, and television, earning her generations of fans.

Lockhart rose to fame as Ruth Martin in Lassie (1958–1964) and later as the calm, intelligent matriarch in Lost in Space (1965–1968). She continued working into her 90s, appearing in The Remake (2016) and Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot in 2021. Tributes poured in after news of her passing.

Co-star Jon Provost called her his “second mother,” while Bill Mumy wrote, “June will always be one of my favorite moms. 100 years here. Wow!”

June once said, “I feel 55, even at 90. I’m fortunate to still be active and working.” Her legacy—spanning from classic Hollywood to the stars—continues to shine, her warmth and talent forever remembered by fans around the world.
