I Paid for Stepdaughter’s Wedding but She Chose Bio Dad to Give Her Away, So I Made Declaration during Toast

A stepfather shared his story on Reddit’s “Off My Chest” forum, revealing his deep disappointment when his stepdaughter chose her biological father to walk her down the aisle, despite the stepfather having generously paid for her wedding. He had been a part of their lives for ten years, providing significant financial support, including covering her $40,000 college education and buying her a car.

Although not legally married to her mother, the stepfather had taken on a fatherly role, hoping to be recognized for his efforts and love. His disappointment peaked during the wedding when he realized his stepdaughter preferred her biological father, who had a history of making and breaking promises.

In a surprising moment, the stepfather seized the opportunity to make a toast at the wedding. He expressed his decade-long presence in the family and his love for his stepdaughter, saying, “I’ve been in your life for ten years, supporting you and loving you like my own.”

What troubled him most was how his stepdaughter treated him compared to her biological father, who had not been as reliable. The stepfather acknowledged her affection for her birth father and her desire to have him in her life, even though he never provided financial support. He reflected, “I understand her affection for her birth father and her desire to have him in her life, even though he never supported her financially.”
