Ontario Premier Doug Ford apologized “to the American people” while reiterating his threat to cut U.S. electricity amid escalating tariff tensions. After President Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods, Prime Minister Trudeau responded with counter-tariffs on $155 billion in U.S. products. Ford previously warned,
“They rely on our energy; they need to feel the pain.” However, he later softened his stance, telling CNN, “It’s not you; it’s your president.” Ford emphasized Canada’s strong U.S. ties but vowed to retaliate against Trump’s policies.
He also canceled Ontario’s agreement with Starlink, accusing Trump of “prioritizing chaos over prosperity.” Declaring, “I didn’t start this tariff war, but we’re going to win it,” Ford reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Ontario’s economy.
