66-year-old mom criticized after giving birth to twin boys

Posted on 7 May 2025 By tony

Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara became the world’s oldest mother when, at 66, she gave birth to twins in 2006. After selling her house to afford IVF treatment, Maria lied about her age, claiming she was 55, and conceived despite societal skepticism and family disapproval. Many criticized her decision, but Maria firmly believed in choosing when to start a family, free from societal pressure.

Sadly, just six months after giving birth, Maria was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and passed away in 2009, only having a few short years with her boys.

Her family stepped in to raise the children, who were reportedly thriving.

Maria’s story sparks debate on the right to choose when to have children, regardless of age. While some consider her decision controversial, Maria’s commitment to motherhood remains a testament to her resolve and the importance of personal choice.
